WATER

Water is the most critical resource issue of our lifetime and our children's lifetime. The health of our waters is the principal measure of how we live on the land.
Luna Leopold

They both listened silently to the water, which to them was not just water, but the voice of life, the voice of Being, the voice of perpetual Becoming.

RIVER ROCK

You have been shaped
by your travels in this world.
Where once there were sharp edges
and stubborn solidity,
there is softness.

When I hold you,
I wonder, is it all the places you’ve been
that define you? or were you sculpted
in times of stillness?
Times you silently allowed
the flow of your world to wash over you.

I admire that equanimity. I want to
carry that smooth solidity in my pocket.
When I worry that there is not enough time,
you are there to remind me
that it takes patience,
and insight to bring the clarity
that inspires movement.

It is this acquired compassion
which allows us to meet others
whose solidity remains stubborn,
whose sharp edges have not yet softened,
and pass that polished wisdom
into another warm hand.
